Festival of Lights brightens Tanglewood nights
More than a million lights will be turned nightly through Jan. 1 during Tanglewood Park’s annual Festival of Lights.
The festival transforms a four-mile route in the park in Clemmons into a holiday light show.
The show is one of the largest of its kind in the Southeast.
Park employees have been working since August to set up the 180 displays, from sparkling Christmas trees to glowing archways.
It includes about 70 animated displays.
Damon Sanders-Pratt, the special assistant to the park’s manager, said that several of the older displays were replaced this year with newer ones.
He said that more than 200,000 people in about 50,000 vehicles rode through park to see the light show last year.
The festival started in 1992 with a 1.5-mile route and 25 displays.
It is open from 6 to 11 each night.
People can sign up to take a hayride through the park or a horse-drawn carriage.
For those who drive, admission Mondays through Thursdays is $9 for family cars, vans and trucks; $16 for commercial vans, limousines and minibuses; and $80 for motor coaches and buses.
Fridays through Sundays, and on holidays, admission is $13 for family cars, vans and trucks, $21 for commercial vans, limousines and minibuses, and $80 for motor coaches and buses.
Information on the rides and reservations are available by contacting the stables at Tanglewood Park. Call 336-766-9540 or visit http://www.tanglewoodpark.org.
